# axis-get-previous-pos

**(axis-get-previous-pos** *joint axis* **)**
## Purpose

Returns the position before the last stored position for the given axis of the joint.

## Parameters

joint |
a joint vector |

axis |
x, y or z |

## Produces

## Preconditions

The joint is a joint vector that can be obtained by a call to oscstring->joint. Axis is x, y or z where x is the joint's horizontal position, y is the joint's vertical position and z is the joint's depth position.

## Postconditions

The returned pos integer is the position the joint was in along the given axis before its current position. Previous position values can be used with current position values to track the joint's speed and direction along the axis. For more information on using joint getter functions, please see the

GettingStarted page.

Returned pos values for the x and y axes range from 0 to 100. For returned x-axis position values, smaller values are to the right of the Kinect user while larger values are to his or her left. For returned y-axis position values, smaller values are above the Kinect user and larger values are below. Returned pos values for the z-axis range from 0 to 700, with smaller pos values closer to the kinect and larger values farther away.
